Tax Club : The Concept
The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), has been actively involved in fostering a culture of tax compliance among students, through its Taxpayer Education and Communication Department (TECD). As part of this initiative, TECD organizes educational sessions in secondary schools, reaching approximately seventy-five colleges, annually. To complement this mission and create sustained engagement from students and more, TECD proposes the establishment of Tax Clubs in secondary schools. These clubs will serve as platforms for continuous learning, engagement, and promotion of tax compliance among students.
The role of taxation is of paramount importance as it finances infrastructure, education, healthcare and national security, amongst other services offered by the state. Yet, for many citizens, taxation remains a misunderstood concept.
The Tax Club initiative by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) is a proactive response to this reality. By embedding tax education within the secondary school ecosystem, MRA is nurturing a generation that understands its role not only as future taxpayers but also as co-architects of national development. The goal is to inspire responsible citizenship, ethical behaviour, and a sense of national belonging.
